The Ritual

You walk down this path every evening. The ground is always damp with the light mist that never leaves. So the crunching of the fall leaves sounds more like soggy Corn Flakes. But this path is so peaceful as the trees of this forest tower over and feel like a warm blanket. The smells of camp fires waft in the air permanently. But this time, the smell is stronger, and the you see just behind a group of trees is a bonfire with strangely dressed people chant. The words seem to repeat, and explode into a song of joy to something that they feel but cannot see. What was this ritual that they saw? Peaceful, yet powerful and deliberate. They decide to return to the path and leave the fire and it's occupants in peace. Perhaps they left to contemplate what they witnessed? Or maybe to remember the details to tell the tale later.
